What this tool will do

Write a page title and meta description and see how Google is likely to show them, on mobile and desktop, before you publish. A pixel counter shows where Google would cut the text, because Google truncates by width, not by number of characters.

How to write a title and description that get clicks

  • Put the main keyword near the start of the title, and write it for a person, not a robot.
  • Keep titles to roughly 50-60 characters (about 580 pixels) so the end is not cut.
  • Use the description to promise what the page delivers and give a reason to click; about 150-160 characters.
  • Give every page its own title and description. Duplicates make pages compete with each other.

Questions

How long should a meta title be?

Google cuts titles by width, at roughly 580 pixels on desktop. That is usually 50 to 60 characters, fewer if you use wide letters or capitals.

Does Google always use my meta description?

No. Google rewrites many descriptions to match the search. A clear, specific description is still the one most often shown.

Is anything I type stored?

No. When the tool is live it runs entirely in your browser; your titles and descriptions are not sent to us.
