What an Open Graph preview shows

When someone shares your link, the network reads a few tags in your page (Open Graph tags such as og:title, og:description and og:image, plus X card tags) and turns them into a card. This free Open Graph preview reads those tags for you and draws the card as Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and X would show it, so you can fix a missing picture or an over-long title before you share.

Check a page or build the tags

The “Check a URL” tab loads one public page, lists the tags it finds, scores them and explains each problem in plain language. The “Build tags” tab works in your browser only: fill in a title, description and image, watch the four previews change as you type, and copy the finished meta tags into your page.

How to use it

  • Paste the page address and press “Check share tags”, or open “Build tags” to start from scratch.
  • Compare the four previews and read the findings marked “Fix” or “Improve”.
  • Update your tags, then re-check. If a network still shows the old card, refresh its saved copy with its own debugger tool.

Questions

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph tags are small pieces of code in the head of a page, such as og:title, og:description and og:image. Facebook created them, and LinkedIn, WhatsApp and many other apps read them to build the card that appears when a link is shared.

What size should the og:image be?

A 1200 x 630 pixel image (about 1.91 to 1) works on every major network. Use a full https address, declare the width and height in the og:image:width and og:image:height tags, and keep the file reasonably small.

Do I need the X (Twitter) card tags too?

X reads your Open Graph tags if it finds no X tags, but it shows a small card unless you add twitter:card with the value summary_large_image. One extra line gives you the large image.

Why does a network still show my old card?

Networks keep a saved copy of every link for days. After you change your tags, use the sharing debugger of the network (Facebook and LinkedIn both have one) to make it fetch the page again.

Is the preview exactly what each network shows?

It is a close, simplified drawing made from your tags. Networks change their designs and sometimes crop images differently, so treat it as a check that your tags are complete and fit, not as a pixel-perfect copy.

Does the "Build tags" tab send my text anywhere?

No. It runs in your browser and sends nothing. The only request is your browser loading the image address you typed, to show it in the previews.
